Welcome to Cardenal Cisneros University College (CCUC)

Cardenal Cisneros University College (CCUC) (formerly the Escuela Universitaria Cardenal Cisneros) is a university teacher training college founded in Alcalá de Henares by the Marist Brothers in 1973. CCUC is dedicated to the training and personal development of future teachers.

CCUC is administratively linked to the University of Alcalá and offers officially recognised degrees. Students benefit from studying in a private university governed by the outstanding and highly committed Cardenal Cisneros Foundation.

Innovation and investigation in the classroom

CCUC offers an ideal learning environment for students of degrees in education and social education, due to its innovation in teaching and learning, teacher training internships, experienced teaching staff, commitment to each and every student, international aspirations, and bilingual teacher training programme.

CCUC’s campus boasts excellent facilities and services. It is located in the town of Alcalá de Henares and is easily accessible by car and public transport. Bus and train services offer excellent transport links with Madrid, Guadalajara and other towns in the region.

Our mission statement is inspired by Saint Marcellin Champagnat, founder of the Marist Brothers, who, through the pedagogy of presence, was committed to the development of liberty, responsibility, the appreciation of professional values, solidarity, creativity and transcendence.

Cardenal Cisneros Virtual Campus

Blended Degree Programmes (combination of face-to-face classes and distance learning) were established in 2003, as a result of a research project in educational innovation. Blended learning gives people the opportunity to fit their studies around their family or work life. This research project led to the creation of the Virtual Campus, an online workspace through which students can follow their degree programmes without attending daily face-to-face classes.

Bilingual Education

CCUC’s commitment to research and innovation has led to the creation of the Bilingual Project. At the heart of the Bilingual Project is the CLIL methodology (Content and Language Integrated Learning). CLIL is not simply concerned with teaching different subjects in English, but, in fact, stimulates students to ask questions and learn through a highly-practical and experience-based teaching methodology. The aim is for students to acquire a sufficient base of knowledge and skills in order to be competent school teachers of subjects taught in English.

CCUC introduced Bilingual Education Degrees in the 2010-2011 academic year. As students of Bilingual Degrees progress from one year to the next, they receive an increasing number of classes taught in English. By the end of their degree programmes, graduating students will have studied over half of the ECTS course credits in subjects taught in English.

Official University Degrees and Quality Assurance

All study programmes offered by CCUC are Official Degrees awarded by the University of Alcalá (UAH). In addition, the Spanish National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) has certified the Design of the Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS) and degree programmes at CCUC. This certification constitutes the first essential step in the ‘Assessment of Internal Quality Assurance Systems in Higher Education’ (AUDIT Programme), which aims to introduce and improve Quality Assurance Systems in Spanish universities.
