What does the Master’s in General Health Psychology offer?

This Master’s in General Health Psychology is offered by CUCC (linked to the University of Alcalá) in collaboration with the Bertrand Russell Psychology Centre.  

This programme combines theory and practice from day one. It aims to provide students with the necessary knowledge, attitudes and skills to perform research, assessments and psychological interventions related to human behaviour and activity in order to improve people’s health (excluding activities that require treatment from other healthcare professionals).

Objectives and competences

The general objective of this master’s programme is to prepare students to work as qualified general health psychologists, in accordance with the 7th Additional Provisions of the General Public Health Law 33/2011, of 4 October, regulating psychology in healthcare, and Order ECD/1070/2013, of 12 June, establishing the requirements for Master’s Degrees in General Health Psychology.

This master’s programme lasts one and a half years: 1st year from October to June (60 ECTS) and 2nd year from October to February (30 ECTS). 

There is the option to form two groups:

  • Morning group: Tuesday to Thursday (9.30 a.m. - 2.30 p.m.)
  • Afternoon group: Tuesday to Thursday (3.30 p.m. - 8.30 p.m.)

Our commitment: producing excellent professionals

We strive to produce excellent professionals. Therefore, in addition to the Practicum subject, we focus on connecting theory with reality.

Students complete internships primarily at the Bertrand Russell Psychology Centre, guaranteeing a connection between theory and practical experience. We also work with other collaborating centres which offer additional insight and expertise.

The internships involve the following elements:

  • Case studies
  • Participation in therapy sessions as co-therapists
  • Clinical sessions
  • Training with problematic patients
  • Meetings with co-therapists
  • Cognitive restructuring practice with clinical cases
  • Training on how to manage one’s own problems
  • Conceptualisation of cases
  • Video of real clinical sessions with therapists
  • Application of techniques to real cases

Applicant requirements

Applicants must meet the following course requirements: UAH general entrance criteria for official master’s degree programmes and a Degree/Diploma in Psychology, together, where applicable, with additional studies related to health sciences amounting to 90 ECTS credits.

If the number of applications exceeds the maximum limit, the selection process will consider the following aspects:

  • Academic transcript (70%)
  • Training in the field of health psychology (15%)
  • Professional activities in the field of health (15%)

Individual interviews may be held with applicants to obtain additional information.

Places offered: 60 places (two groups of 30 students)
Minimum number of places: 20.
Groups:

  • Morning group: 9.30 a.m. - 2.30 p.m.
  • Afternoon group: 3.30 p.m. - 8.30 p.m.

  • A photocopy of your Spanish ID (DNI).
